[ARCHIVED] Construction Notice for Phase II on South Parking Place

Construction Notice for Phase II
October 31, 2017

The work in Phase I of the Carriage Square reconstruction at South Parking Place is progressing well and a bit ahead of schedule with the substantial completion of new pavement and sidewalks. The contractor, Matula & Matula Construction has made temporary preparations in this area to provide access for the parking switch needed for Phase II reconstruction of the old pavements to get started.

Construction move-in to this Phase II has been tentatively scheduled for Thursday, November 2, 2017 with the removal operations of all existing pavement and most sidewalks. This operation will bring out the challenges of maintaining access to your doorway that will inconvenience you and your customers. We hope that you will work with us to move this period along as best as possible.

To this end, the contractor will be installing strategic temporary walkways for limited access for you, employees and customers. The placement of these have been made in mind with the location of the dumpsters to be relocated as well as for the access to the replacement parking spaces. These walkways will be limited and inconvenient, so your patience and cooperation is essential.

Please encourage your business patrons to use the This Way or Parking Way access to your business where possible. For those without this option, the city and contractor will take all measures to provide a safe temporary walkway. As the Phase II pavement progresses, the access to your business will be reestablished as soon as possible.

Phase II and the yet unfinished Phase I work; such as canopy structure construction will run concurrently for a period of time.

As you may have concerns on this matter, staff along with the contractor are ready to meet with you in the field to discuss them and make adjustments to the construction plan where advantageous.

If you would like more information about the project, please contact either Modesto Mundo, Assistant City Manager or Sal Aguirre, City Engineer.
