AN INVITATION TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO PROVIDE SCIENTIFIC OR TECHNICAL INFORMATION AND/OR COMMENTS ON PROPOSED FLOOD HAZARD DETERMINATIONS SHOWN ON AVAILABLE PRELIMINARY FLOOD INSURANCE RATE MAP (FIRM) AND FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY REPORT (FIS) DURING THE 90-DAYS APPEAL PERIOD STARTED FEBRUARY 28TH, 2019 AND ENDING MAY 29TH, 2019
The City of Lake Jackson, Brazoria County, Texas is inviting any property owners or lessee who has supporting relevant scientific or technical information and / or comments negating or contradicting FEMA’s findings and would like to contest the proposed flood hazard determinations as shown on available preliminary FIRM and/or FIS for areas within the City Limits and Extra Jurisdictional (ETJ) areas, to do so during the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) set 90-days appeal period which will end on May 29th, 2019. Interested parties or anyone who could potentially be affected by any changes, to the flood zone designations, base flood elevations (BFE) or depths, or regulated floodways, can submit their respective appeal through the City of Lake Jackson before May 22nd, 2019, to this address: The Honorable Bob Sipple, Mayor, City of Lake Jackson, 25 Oak Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas 77566
Please reference Community No. 485484 in all communications and provide the relevant supporting technical information and/or comments on paper and/or digital media, or a combination thereof. Note that non-technical recommended changes to incorrect street names, city names, typographical errors, or omissions and the likes, can also be submitted. In short, the non-technical changes would be anything that would not alter the proposed flood hazard delineations nor the base flood elevations. The City or a designee, will review appeal data received and issue a written opinion to FEMA stating whether the evidence provided is enough to justify an official appeal by the City of lake Jackson as the Community or on behalf of the interested parties. Appeals will be resolved by FEMA consulting with the Community Officials, by an administrative hearing, or submitting the conflicting data to an independent scientific body or appropriate Federal agency for advice. FEMA will make available to the Public all documents used in making the final determination.
