[ARCHIVED] ROAD CLOSING PHASE 1 STEP 2 HICKORY STREET FROM MIMOSA TO WALNUT

P R E S S R E L E A S E

NOTICE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC OF IMPENDING ROAD CLOSING
PHASE 1 STEP 2 HICKORY STREET FROM MIMOSA TO WALNUT

Work on the West side of Hickory Street in the 100 block has reached a point where it becomes necessary for the contractor to move temporary parking from the East side of Hickory Street to the West. The remaining pavement in the 100 block of Hickory Street is scheduled for removal beginning Monday, April 22, 2019. The switch over process will include changing the direction of travel along the 100 block of Hickory Street from South to North, to North to South. This will create a temporary one-way street from Mimosa Street to Walnut Street on the newly paved section of Hickory Street.

Work will continue on the West side of Hickory Street in the 200 and 300 blocks while the switch in the 100 block is done. The traffic pattern in those blocks will remain the same until the West half of those blocks is completed.

Step 2 of the pavement switch over will be installing temporary parking along the newly paved side of the street. As the parking is installed, residents on the odd numbered side of the street should begin parking across the street from their residence. Once all temporary parking stalls are installed, pavement removal will begin on the left side of the street. This will be followed by installation of temporary cross walks for access to the houses on the East side of the street.

Open side residents will again have normal use of their driveways for parking during this phase. Due to the limited parking spaces relative to cars per household please make every effort in your part to find alternative parking places to allow for a fair distribution to your immediate neighbors. Please relocate any recreation or work equipment to alternate storage parking areas to have access to these as you use them.

We provided detailed information of the construction at the public town meeting held in October 2018 and will provide the affected property owners or public in general with any information as needed through all our available communication media and by direct phone call to the engineering department at (979) 415-2413.

Expect, periodic traffic disruptions and restricted access through the work zone. Please observe construction zone regulations of the directional and speed limit signs being erected and being enforced by our police department. Please be considerate of your neighbor’s safety as well as your own as you share the street into and out of Hickory Street. Please make every effort to make plans for the use of alternate routes to your destinations. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconveniences these needed improvement changes may create for you.

Sincerely,
Sal Aguirre, P.E.
City Engineer
