Tropical Storm Imelda

9/17/2019 – 4 pm

Tropical Storm Imelda spun up and made landfall about 1pm near Freeport.  The storm has moved inland past Lake Jackson and will continue to track north for the next day or so.

Most of the heavy rain will fall to the east of the northward track of Tropical Storm Imelda.  The National Weather Service is predicting rainfall amounts over the next day or so to total about 6-8 inches.

In anticipation of the coming storm, city crews went out and checked our drainage structures and flood gates.  Crews will remain on the ready if needed to respond to higher than expected rainfall which could create some street flooding.

Again, the worst of the storm should be past us by tonight.  But we will continue to monitor this storm closely should conditions change.

Unless there is a change in the forecast, this will likely be our only official statement on Tropical Storm Imelda.
