The drainage ditch crossing Walnut Street and ditch to SH 332 East is scheduled for repairs including removal and replacement of the Walnut Street crossing structure over the drainage ditch. The contractor (HTI Construction) will begin moving into the area with equipment and traffic signage starting Monday, April 12, 2021.
The work is scheduled to begin with concrete ditch lining of Yaupon Ditch from the Walnut Street crossing toward SH 332 East. The ditch will be cleaned and widened before a concrete bottom and sides are installed to help the rainwater move through the area. The construction equipment and activities are expected to be heavily concentrated along the 100 block of Silverbell Circle adjacent to the ditch during this early phase of construction. Residents can expect periodic traffic obstructions as the workers enter and exit the roadway with materials.
Once the concrete ditch lining is installed, the Walnut Street Drainage crossing will be removed, and traffic will be detoured through the Oleander or Lotus Street crossings until the new crossing is reinstalled. The exact timing of the drainage structure work will depend on several factors that are beyond our control such as weather conditions and material shipments. We will notify the public before the drainage crossing work begins, and traffic control will be set before the removal of the structure begins.
Law enforcement and emergency organizations should disseminate this information to their staff and make any necessary route changes to their normal operations. Please pay attention to the directional traffic being erected for this purpose.
Sincerely,
Sal Aguirre, P.E.
City Engineer
