BC, City of Lake Jackson team up to celebrate city’s 70th anniversary with drama production
Auditions for 1943-era play scheduled for Aug. 26-27.
LAKE JACKSON – In celebration of Lake Jackson’s 70th anniversary, Brazosport College and the City of Lake Jackson are taking area residents back to the era in which the city was founded.
With an emphasis on the year 1943, the Brazosport College Drama and Music departments, along with the city of Lake Jackson, will present the Broadway comedy “Kiss & Tell” at Brazosport College’s Seidule Drama Theatre from Oct. 3 through 12.
Written by Frederick Hugh Hebert and focused on the World War II era, “Kiss & Tell” was one of two Broadway plays in 1943. The show had nearly 1,000 Broadway performances. Tickets will be free to the public.
Before the show can debut, however, a cast needs to be selected.
Auditions for “Kiss & Tell” will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26 and Tuesday, Aug. 27 at the Seidule Drama Theatre. Auditions are open to anyone in the community.
While performances of “Kiss & Tell” will provide plenty of nostalgia for area residents, there will be other opportunities to travel back in time, as well.
On Oct. 12, the city and college are sponsoring a 1943-style swing dance from 8 to 11 p.m. at Brazosport College’s Gator Hall. TheBrazosport College Jazz Band & Jazz Singers will provide the music and entertainment. Veterans from WWII also will be honored at the event.
Rounding out the festivities, the Brazosport College Art Gallery also will be presenting an art show highlighting Lake Jackson’s rich history.
