  • House Bill 914, passed during the 2005 Texas legislative session, became effective January 1, 2006. The bill added a new Chapter 176 to the Texas Local Government Code. Chapter 176 requires certain local government officers and those doing business or seeking to do business with local governmental entities to publicly disclose specified relationships. The new disclosure requirements apply to municipalities, such as the City of Sugar Land, counties, school districts and certain other local governmental entities. The numbers or letters should be placed on the front of the building so that they can be seen from the street. It is very important that this ordinance be followed. In the event of an urgent situation, these numbers will help emergency vehicles locate your address quickly.

  • Yes. In case of an urgent situation, these numbers will help emergency response vehicles locate your address promptly. Per City Ordinance Article I. In General, Section 14-4 requires house/building numbers to be visible from the street. The numbers or letters shall be at least three and one-half (3 1/2) inches high and color legible enough to be seen by the public from the street immediately in front of the house or building. The location of the numbers or letters must be placed onto the house or building, and may not be placed on your mailbox or detached garage.
